The Whole World's a Stage.
What do we do?
Speech and Drama is all about improving a child's self-confidence and self-esteem. It gives pupils the skills necessary to speak and perform in public. The programme involves verse-speaking, mime, sight reading, acting, vocal development, improvisation and script work - obviously levels vary across the range of ages and abilities. Lots of warm-up activities and games are used. By working with the pupils in a group, as well as individually, we see great developments in confidence, speaking and dramatic ability.
There are always opportunities to develop reading skills and fluency. Memory work is encouraged but this should never become a chore. Try to read over the piece set with your child when school homework is finished and then after a couple of days begin to commit it to memory. A few lines are all that is required for our little ones who mostly learn along with us as we teach. Children require a folder with plastic pockets secured inside.
Examinations are offered to our students every year. these exams are of a Regulated nature and are taken through New Era Academy of Speech and Drama. These exams have a UCAS credit value from Grade 6 up. These qualifications can therefore be included on UCAS applications and may be used to highlight a particular set of skills.
